Holiday in white clothes. Vestment color

All over the world, hydrangea is on the wave of popularity.

AT last years and a large number of varieties appear on the market of Udmurtia different types and varieties of hydrangeas. On the one hand, I really want to get a beauty that blooms profusely in the second half of summer, on the other hand, the question stops, will the hydrangea overwinter our harsh winter?

Let's figure out what varieties will decorate the garden for many years?

When buying a seedling, the first thing you need to pay attention to is in which zone the planting material is grown. Plants from Holland, the Netherlands, the Krasnodar Territory, Ukraine will not show maximum decorative effect in our conditions, and even wintering species can be damaged by frost.

On the territory of Udmurtia without shelter for the winter, it is recommended to grow varieties of two types of hydrangea: tree and paniculate.

Hydrangea

The oldest and most famous variety can be called "Annabelle".

The height of the bush reaches 1.5 m, the width is 1.0-1.5 m. White flowers with a diameter of about 2 cm are collected in inflorescences up to 25 cm in diameter. From June to September you will admire this variety. Grows in any conditions, unpretentious. It is used both in group plantings and in hedges, tapeworms, containers.

Sort "Pink Annabelle" pink variety of tree hydrangea. The flowers are collected in large spherical inflorescences, up to 30-40 cm in diameter. The height of the bush does not exceed 1.3 m. The flowers "rust" with overhead watering and prolonged rains. Since the branches are thin, they are bent from the severity of the inflorescences, and the bush is falling apart, therefore, when flowering, it requires a garter to the supports. In compositions, it is recommended to use it as a supporting plant.

Hydrangea paniculata with inflorescences of sterile flowers

The most popular Variety "Vanille Fraise" will not leave indifferent to itself not one gardener. The height of the bush reaches 2.0 m, the width is 1.5 m. The branches are strong, dense and, despite the large inflorescences, 30-45 cm long, do not require a garter.

The flower opens white, over time, the bottom becomes strawberry red, and the top remains vanilla white. By the end of flowering, it darkens and acquires a cherry-red color.

Flowering is long, not damaged by pests and diseases. Versatile in use for any purpose - tapeworms, hedges, tree and shrub groups.

Hydrangea paniculata "Phantom"- has a beautiful bush shape with huge conical inflorescences, reaching up to 55 cm with good care. The height of the bush reaches 2 m, diameter - 2 m. When blooming, the inflorescences are light cream, then change to slightly pink, flowering is plentiful in July-September.

It is used in solitary and group plantings in recreation areas, on the lawn, in front gardens, to create plantings mixed with perennials.

Loved by many grade "Limelight" The bush is not more than 1.5 m high. The shoots are strong, thick, the compact bush does not fall apart and does not need support. It blooms profusely from August to October with large, wide-conical inflorescences, consisting of sterile flowers of pale lemon or greenish color, which then turn pink.

It is used for single and group plantings in places of rest, in shrub mixborders. Suitable for winter bouquets.

Shows itself very well grade "Silver Dollar". A bush of a beautiful shape, its height reaches 2.0 m and a width of 2.0 m or more with strong, vertical shoots. Inflorescences pyramidal beautiful large white, turn pink by autumn. Blooms from July to September.

It is used in solitary and group plantings in recreation areas, on the lawn, in front gardens, to create plantings mixed with perennials. By adjusting the degree of pruning, you can achieve abundant flowering (for this, you need to cut last year's shoots very shortly) or enhance the growth of stems (in this case, choose gentle pruning).

Sort "Diamant Rouge" with a bright red color that lasts all season. The bush is compact, not more than 1.3 m tall. The flowers in the inflorescences open at first pure white, then quickly turn pink and after two weeks become red, which lasts for several weeks. The bright color is preserved throughout the flowering period and does not depend on adverse weather conditions. In full dissolution, it requires support, branches cannot hold large caps of inflorescences.

One of the most famous and widespread grade "Grandiflora". The height of the bush is 2-3 meters. Inflorescence wide cone, 20-30 cm long. The flowers are sterile, creamy white, then pink. Blooms until October. Demanding for top dressing, does not tolerate waterlogging.

Dwarf varieties of hydrangea

The dwarf variety is rapidly gaining popularity Bobo. A bush of a beautiful spherical shape, height 60-70 cm, width 50 cm. Inflorescences are conical, lush, large, can reach up to 2/3 of the length of the shoot, with a transition from lemon green to white and then to soft pink. Flowering is long and abundant. Resistant to pests and diseases. Looks good in mixborders, borders, narrow flower beds.

Varieties "Little Lime" and Sunda Fraise the same applies to dwarf varieties. Their height does not exceed 1 meter, the bushes are compact, symmetrical, the shoots are erect, rigid. The inflorescences are large, dense, slightly pink when flowering. Flowering is abundant and long. It is used in solitary and group plantings in recreation areas, on the lawn, in front gardens, to create plantings mixed with perennials. Ideal for small gardens, balconies and terraces.

The inflorescence is cone-shaped, with a narrow base up to 30 cm long. The flowers are white, then pink. Blooms from July to October. Landing in sunny sheltered places. Mandatory watering during the period of growth of shoots and top dressing with fertilizers.

It is used in single and group plantings, as an accent in tree and shrub compositions with the inclusion of red-leaved plants.

Tall variety "Kyushu" one of the tallest up to 3 m tall and the same crown diameter. Shoots are straight, protruding, red-brown, form a vase-shaped crown. The leaves are dark green, glossy, and the petioles are red. The glossy leaves are easily distinguishable from other varieties. The flowers are white with a pleasant aroma, collected in long and wide inflorescences, in which there are more fertile flowers than sterile ones. Blooms from mid-July to September.

Varieties of panicled hydrangea amaze the imagination and beckon with beautiful flowering, exuding a delicate aroma of summer. This is a group of shrubs that are perfect for decorating gardens, lawns and alleys for a long time. With proper planting and care, hydrangeas can grow for over 50 years.

Famous varieties of paniculate hydrangea

The main difference between panicled hydrangea and other species is the inflorescences in the form of cones, like those of lilacs. They consist of two types of small flowers of different sizes: bisexual and sterile.
There are many varieties of this species, which are replenished annually with new samples. They differ in the tone of the inflorescences, the height of the bushes, the timing of flowering, as well as other characteristic features. Plants are frost-resistant, with proper care, they take root remarkably in a temperate continental climate.

We talked about the proper care and cultivation of hydrangeas in the garden in the article.

Panicled hydrangeas are the most hardy, winter-hardy (zone 3-8, without shelter up to -40), unpretentious, more resistant than garden hydrangea and even than tree hydrangea. Panicled hydrangea can grow in one place for more than 40 years.
Forma-deciduous shrub with large (up to 30 cm in length) pyramidal inflorescences, consisting of a mixture of fertile (fertile) in the center and sterile flowers at the edges. Flowering occurs at the ends of most shoots of the current year. At the beginning of flowering, the inflorescences are greenish, they gradually lighten (whiten or turn yellow), then turn pink or redden by autumn. Blooms profusely from early summer to September-October. Shoots - quickly woody, which contributes to the high cold resistance of the plant.
Pruning (shortening the shoots by 1/3) is recommended in the spring before bud break.

Hydrangea varieties differ in the height of the bush, the strength and color of the stems, the structure of the foliage, the size, shape, color and structure of the inflorescences. Inflorescences of paniculate hydrangeas can be conditionally divided into 4 groups:
open (loose) - openwork, light, with a predominance of fertile flowers,
semi-open - less than half of the sterile flowers,
dense - with a predominance of sterile flowers,

is a shrub plant belonging to the genus Hydrangieves (Hydrangeaceae). It is of interest to flower growers due to the beautiful lush flowering with large inflorescences of various colors: white, blue, pink, blue. The birthplace of hydrangea is China and Southeast Asia. The plant was introduced into cultivation at the end of the 18th century.

Did you know? The name of the genus comes from three words: hydor - water, angor - longing, hortis - garden, translated means "yearning for water". Another version indicates that the source of the name Hydrangeaceae are the words hydor - water and aggeion - a vessel. Whatever it was, but the name reflects main feature plants - hydrangea is very moisture-loving.

Previously, hydrangea was considered a capricious and whimsical plant, but thanks to the efforts of breeders, species were bred that even a novice gardener can grow without much hassle.

One of them is panicled hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata), which is attractive primarily for its ability to tolerate low temperatures well and for long flowering. We will talk about other advantages of panicle hydrangea and its best varieties in this article.

Panicled hydrangea is characterized by large and long panicle inflorescences - up to 30 cm in height. The shrub itself can grow from 1 to 10 meters in height. When blooming, the flowers have a greenish-white or creamy-white color, closer to the flowering period they turn pink, and turn red towards the end of flowering. Flowering time is from June to October. The first flowering occurs four to five years after planting.

Important! It is advisable not to plant hydrangeas in the immediate vicinity of fruit trees, as then they will enter into a struggle for water.

The bush attracted the attention of breeders at the end of the 20th century. Since then, more than 25 varieties of panicled hydrangea have been bred, a description of the most interesting varieties is presented below.

Grandiflora (Grandiflora) was bred one of the first. It differs by a somewhat late onset of flowering compared to other varieties - it produces flowers in July. Finishes flowering in September. The color of the inflorescences is interesting in this variety. When the shrub is just beginning to bloom, the flowers on it are creamy white, in the process of flowering they become pure white, then pink, and when they fade - greenish red.

Did you know? By taking certain manipulations, you can get flowers of other colors from hydrangeas. So, when watering before flowering with a solution of aluminum or ammonia alum, the white sepals of the plant will turn blue, pink - purple. The addition of iron to the soil Blue colour. Also, to obtain a blue color, watering with copper sulphate is used.

Bushes at Grandiflora grow large - up to 2 m, with a rounded spreading crown. The variety also has beautiful leaves, they are dark green, velvety, pointed. The plant prefers to grow in sunny areas, but can tolerate light partial shade. Paniculate hydrangeas of the Grandiflora variety are resistant to frost, young plants need to be covered for the winter.

In ornamental culture, this variety is best used in standard form. It is also used for forcing. If the inflorescences are dried, they are perfect for decorating winter bouquets.

Kyushu variety can be easily distinguished from other varieties by dark green glossy leaves with red petioles. It also has fragrant flowers. Blooms in mid-July. Classic white flowers. Flowering ends in September. Shrub grows up to 3 m in height and in diameter. Loves light, but can tolerate partial shade.

In culture, it is used in miskborders, Japanese gardens, group plantings and alone.

Did you know? The variety takes its name from the Japanese island of Kyushu. There he was found in wild nature in 1926, then delivered to Europe.

Variety Mathilda (Mathilda) is noticeable by rather high conical inflorescences (25 cm) and a large bush - up to 1.8-2 m. During the flowering period from July to September, it changes the shades of flowers four times - from creamy white to white, then in autumn the flowers become pale pink and finish blooming greenish-red. Survives at low temperatures.

Later than all other varieties, Tardiva blooms. Flowering begins in the second half of August, and ends with the onset of frost. Her inflorescences are narrow conical and pyramidal in shape. The flowers are creamy white, turning pink over time.

In order not to lose decorativeness, Tardiva bushes are best planted in open sunny areas. In winter, young plants require shelter. The older the shrub gets, the more resistant it is to cold.

Important! Hydrangeas will delight with abundant flowering in the right soil. They prefer loose, moist soils rich in humus. Can grow on acidic, clay and peaty soil. They do not like sandy and calcareous soil.

Tardiva shrubs are used for mixed plantings with perennials, in shrub mixborders. Dried inflorescences are used in bouquets.

Bushes of the Limelight variety reach a maximum height of one and a half meters. The inflorescences of this variety have a pronounced lemon or green tint. At the end of flowering they become pink. In front gardens, these hydrangeas look beautiful both singly and in group plantings. Together with other shrubs, they are used in mixborders. Inflorescences are suitable for winter bouquets.

The Pinky Winky variety is valued for strong, resilient stems that are able to withstand large, heavy inflorescences 15-20 cm in height without support. The flowering of this hydrangea is a wonderful sight. Just like all hydrangeas, Pinky Winky changes the color of the inflorescences depending on the flowering period - in July they are white, and in September they are dark pink. Since this process occurs unevenly, the inflorescences can be colored differently at the same time: for example, they can be pink from below, light pink in the middle, and white at the tips. And on the bush itself there can be either pure white inflorescences or completely dark pink.

The shrub grows up to 2 m in length and width. Its crown is rounded. Prefers to grow in open areas, but not in direct sunlight. This hydrangea is often planted near the entrance to a house or yard, near gazebos, benches, as a hedge. Suitable for both single and group plantings.

Another popular variety of paniculate hydrangea is Vanille Fraise. These shrubs reach a height of 2 m and a width of 1.5 m. At the very beginning of flowering, pyramid inflorescences are white, but they quickly change shade and become rich pink. This variety is photophilous and frost-resistant.
